Privacy Policy
Soren is built so that your most personal numbers stay yours. The short version: everything runs on your iPhone, there is no account, and we never receive your data.
The short version. Soren runs entirely on your device. There is no sign-up and no Soren Labs account. We operate no servers that receive your information, and we use no third-party analytics or trackers. Your Apple Health data, motion data, focus sessions and Soren Score are processed on your iPhone and are never transmitted to us. We cannot see them.
Who we are
Soren is made by Soren Labs (“Soren Labs”, “we”, “us”) - a small independent research lab, not a registered company. This policy explains what data Soren accesses on your device, why, and the choices you have. You can reach us any time at hello@sorenlabs.xyz.
On-device by design
Soren computes your Soren Score, detects your sleep, and enforces your focus blocking entirely on your iPhone. The app makes no network requests to send your personal data off the device. There is no cloud account to create and nothing to log in to.
Apple Health (HealthKit) data
With your permission, Soren reads the following from Apple Health to compute your daily Soren Score and your sleep, all on your device:
- Sleep analysis
- Steps, walking + running distance, flights climbed
- Active energy, Apple Exercise minutes, stand time
- Heart-rate variability (HRV) and resting heart rate
- Walking heart-rate average and workouts
Soren writes back one thing: when it detects a night of sleep from your iPhone’s motion, it saves that sleep window to Apple Health (as an “in bed” sample) so your nightly totals stay in sync. It writes sleep only when no higher-quality source - such as an Apple Watch or another sleep app - already covers that night. Data written to Apple Health is governed by Apple’s Health privacy controls and stays within your own Health data on your device and (if you enable it) your private iCloud - never with us.
We never use your Apple Health data for advertising or marketing, never share it with third parties, and never use it for any purpose other than providing the features of the app on your device.
Motion & Fitness data
To detect when you slept without requiring a watch, Soren reads recent motion-activity history from your iPhone’s motion coprocessor. This analysis happens on-device and in the moment; the raw motion data is not stored by Soren and is never transmitted. Only the resulting sleep windows are kept (in Apple Health, as above).
Screen Time & app/website blocking
Soren’s focus blocking uses Apple’s Screen Time / Family Controls framework. The apps, categories and websites you choose to block are represented as private, opaque tokens provided by iOS - Soren cannot read them as names, and they remain on your device. They are used only to apply the on-device “shield” during your scheduled or lock-in periods. Any screen-time usage figures are shown to you by Apple’s own sandboxed interface; the figures are not sent back to Soren or to us.
Information stored on your device
Your schedule, focus-session history, blocked-app selections, detected sleep records and daily Soren Score snapshots are stored locally on your iPhone (in the app’s private storage and a shared container used by its widget and Screen Time extension). This data stays on your device and is removed when you delete the app.
What we do not do
- No accounts, logins, email collection or passwords.
- No servers operated by us that receive your personal data.
- No third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or trackers.
- No selling or sharing of your data - there is nothing for us to sell.
- No location tracking; Soren does not use GPS or CoreLocation.
Subscriptions & payments
If you subscribe, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your name, card details or payment information; Apple processes the transaction under its own privacy policy and shares only the anonymous subscription status the app needs to unlock features.
Keeping your data, and deleting it
Because your data lives on your device, you are in control of it:
- Revoke what Soren can read in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health and → Motion & Fitness.
- Remove blocking permission in Settings → Screen Time.
- Delete the Soren app to erase its on-device data. Sleep already written to Apple Health can be removed in the Health app.
Children
Soren is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or under the minimum age of digital consent in your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children - and, as above, we do not collect personal data from anyone.
Your rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights over personal data a service holds about you. Because Soren keeps your data on your own device and we operate no servers that receive it, Soren Labs holds no personal data about you to access, export, correct or delete. You exercise these rights directly by managing the data on your device as described above. If you believe we hold data about you, contact hello@sorenlabs.xyz and we will help.
If this ever changes
Soren does not include analytics or crash reporting today. If a future version adds optional diagnostics, or any feature that would send data off your device, we will update this policy and surface the change in the app before that feature is enabled.
The website & early access
This site (sorenlabs.xyz) is static and carries no advertising trackers. If you give us your email through the early-access form, we use it only to contact you about Soren - we don’t sell or share it, and we’ll remove it on request at hello@sorenlabs.xyz. If we’ve turned on privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics, it measures page visits only - never any app or health data, which never reaches the website at all.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will revise the “Effective” date above and post the new version here. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
